Ever heard of mindful eating? While working at Orane International, I stumbled upon a concept that instantly sparked my curiosity.
It all began when a colleague introduced me to the intriguing world of “mindful eating.” Buckle up, as this concept is about to take you on a scrumptiously exciting ride toward better health and well-being.
So, what’s mindful eating all about?
It’s about using mindfulness to pay attention to your experiences, cravings, and physical cues when you eat.
This means a few things:
- eating slowly and without any distractions,
- listening carefully to your body’s hunger signals, and
- stopping when you’re full.
It’s not just about the physical aspects, though. It also involves learning to cope with any guilt or anxiety you might have about food, eating to maintain your overall health and well-being, and even appreciating the effects of food on your feelings and your body.
But why should I/you give this new healthy habit a shot?
Let’s face it – we live in a fast-paced world with endless food choices. Moreover, our attention has been diverted away from the act of eating itself by screens and devices.
This often leads to mindless eating, where we consume our meals quickly and don’t give our brains enough time to register fullness.
This is where mindful eating comes in. By practicing it, I can restore my attention and slow the process, making eating a deliberate and intentional act rather than just a routine.
Plus, it helps me become more attuned to my body’s hunger and fullness cues, allowing me to distinguish between emotional and true physical hunger.
The best thing is that it has been linked to weight loss and healthier eating habits. Many weight loss programs have a short-lived impact, with people often regaining the weight they lost over time.
Mindful eating, however, has the potential to change eating behaviors and reduce stress, making it a sustainable approach to weight management.
If you’re intrigued to learn more about it, a world of knowledge awaits.
