“We cannot all succeed when half of us are held back.”
—Malala Yousafzai
Everyone is familiar with this young Pakistani activist who demanded female education and went on to become the youngest-ever Nobel Prize laureate. It is indeed inspiring to see young women come forward and take steps to promote women empowerment. And the Government of India too is extremely supportive of this cause.
Initiatives by the Government
The year 2001 was declared as the Year of Women’s Empowerment (Swashakti) by the Government of India. What drove our government to dedicate this year to women? With so many women in the country facing hardships related to inequality of rights, unemployment, inadequate healthcare, and lack of vocational and non-vocational education, etc., the government has been actively involved in drafting new policies and taking up several initiatives for women empowerment.
As per Census 2011, the Indian population is 1210.19 million comprising 586.47 million (48.5%) females. India is a home to such a large number of women, but a large section of these women are unemployed, face domestic violence, and are often uneducated too. With these issues in mind, the government has come up with several welfare schemes, for providing maternity and other medical care to women, education and life skills training, loans for starting small businesses, among various others.
We believe in Women Empowerment
However, we understand that the onus does not always lie on the government. There are a lot of private institutes and organizations who can and are actively playing their part in women empowerment.
At Orane, we realize how important it is for women to become independent earning members of their families. Not only to offer financial support to their families but also to create an identity for herself. She should be able to take full responsibility of her life should anything happen to her husband in the future. We want women to have secure futures without having to depend on anybody.
How we collaborate with the Government
Since India has emerged to be one of the top growing beauty and wellness markets in the world, it makes complete sense to capitalize on this opportunity. Orane is the largest network of beauty and wellness institutes in the country.
